Jumping to Conclusions

Thank you for supporting me. Because of increased interest, the blog has moved. Please follow this link.

Things aren't always how they seem and it's important to gather all the facts so we don't jump to conclusions.

Don't you find in today's fast-paced life, that many adults tend to react to a situation before even analyzing it? So often they jump to a conclusion without having the whole picture, rather than draw a conclusion after careful analysis of all the information. Sadly, this leads to misunderstandings, hurt feelings, and the erosion of relationships.

I was at the zoo recently when a visitor sounded the alarm at a baby elephant being attacked when, in reality, it was gleefully rolling about while its mother lathered on dust (elephant suntan lotion)! Thankfully, the alarmist didn't affect the elephants at all but one wonders about the health of her social relationships and the calmness of her life.

Jumping to conclusions has always been a behavior of youth as they try to make sense of the world. But it seems to be spreading to the adult population and that, in my view, is very dangerous!

Curb your impulse to react
until you have the facts.

  3. Hi Dr. Roberts,
I cannot agree with you more how the young adults jump way before they have all the facts, never thinking of the big picture. They only seem to see what they think is affecting them at that very moment and nothing or anyone else. Sometimes I think that it is because they are all running in the fastest pace world ever, wired to the hilt.
I enjoy life so much more when I have time to think and just spent time taking in all that our grand creator has given us. Life is so much more then.

  4. Hi, Emma. I agree with your sentiments. That's why it perplexes me so when I see adults respond in he same way; by then I'd hope we'd have settled down a bit more so could take the necessary time to live well. At least, that's my hope.

  5. After reading this I'm reminded how often I witnessed this while growing up, and it was the adults. I'm hopeful we continue to learn and not let the stresses rule our world. We can only hope to teach by example.

  6. I so agree with you. And I think you've hit on the reason why so many adults behave this way...we're always so stressed. Perhaps if we could become happy with a simpler life we'd be less stressed? I don't think many will buy into that though, do you?
